How to Clean Green Mold From Pool Screen Enclosures

Mold grows in moist, dark places, frequently forming a green powdery substance that spreads across the material to which it has bonded. An obvious eyesore, green mold can also cause health complications to anyone with asthma or allergy problems. The areas around a swimming pool are frequently susceptible to mold because of the obvious buildup of moisture that attracts mold growth. Removing green mold from a pool screen enclosure is not difficult, just tedious.
Instructions
1. Power wash the enclosure to eliminate most of the mold, since the high water pressure combined with the hot temperature of the water will force the mold off the screens. Start at low pressure first and gradually increase it to ensure you don’t damage the screens. Hardware stores usually have power washers for rent.
2. Mix together warm water and white vinegar in a half-and-half solution in a spray bottle. Spray the screens with the solution and scrub them with a scrub brush or a scrubbing sponge to remove any stubborn mold.
3. Pour 3 qts. of warm water into a bucket and add 1 quart of liquid chlorine bleach. Wear rubber gloves any time you are working with bleach to avoid chemical burns. Add 1/3 cup of powdered detergent to the water as well.
4. Soak a scrub brush or sponge in the solution and liberally apply it to any remaining mold. Rinse the screens with regular water once the mold is gone to eliminate any remaining bleach or detergent.
